Resident Leadership
Powerful People & Powerful Parents Curriculum Overview
Empowering Communities Through Leadership
The Powerful People and Powerful Parents curricula are cornerstone programs developed by Cultiva Central Valley to build grassroots leadership and drive positive change in under-resourced communities. These programs focus on equipping residents—primarily low-income, immigrant, and monolingual families—with the knowledge and skills to advocate for healthier, more equitable environments.
Two paths, one purpose
Powerful People builds community leadership for healthier neighborhoods. Through discussions, hands‑on activities, and fieldwork, participants learn to influence policy, systems, and environmental change—then put it into action alongside local partners.
Powerful Parents equips families to lead in schools. Parents learn how districts work, what school wellness looks like, where funding flows, and how to advocate for student success and welcoming, trauma‑informed school climates.
Transformation
Graduates—many proudly calling themselves Mujeres Poderosas—step into leadership roles on parent councils, advisory boards, and local committees. Their advocacy has supported community wins like park revitalizations, Safe Routes to School, expanded school wellness efforts, and improved access to mental‑health resources. The result isn’t just a completed training, it’s a durable network of resident leaders who keep showing up for their neighborhoods and schools.
